nils oliver frahm + peter ray broderick = oliveray. being musical companions and label buddies for many years, it was just a matter of time until peter broderick and nils frahm would start their first standalone project together. oliveray was born during a time when both artists were living in berlin and frahm supporting broderick on tour. their debut release wonders — a nice little collection of eight musical pieces — was released on erased tapes in 2011. the vinyl release includes a download code.

strut presents the brand new album an angel fell from cosmic jazz travellers the pyramids, led by saxophonist idris ackamoor. produced by malcolm catto of the heliocentrics, the album was recorded during an intense week at quatermass studios in london. some of the many highlights include the poignant title track depicting a fallen angel in purgatory, outrage and grief on the powerful, hard hitting soliloquy for michael brown and the lilting, beautiful album closer, sunset. the pyramids originally came together in 1972 at antioch college, yellow springs, ohio where teachers included renowned pianist, cecil taylor. after forming in paris and embarking on a cultural odyssey across africa, the group recorded three independent albums,‘lalibela (1973), king of kings (1974) and birth/speed/merging (1976) and became renowned for their striking live shows, mixing percussive, spiritual and space-age jazz with performance theatre and dance.

following fine scalpel-focused outings from ltj and les inferno, many of many aliases stefano de gama returns to samosa with a trio of subtly tooled-up disco edits. a-side -son of slave- sees him join together bits of soulful disco-era classics -slide- and -son of slide- to form a tasty new whole. while heavily compressed and noticeably chunkier than either of the original tracks, de gama s version is loose enough to please those who think edits should merely be dj-friendly re-arrangements. turn to the flipside for the lolloping, low-slung afro-funk goodness of -1972- and the throbbing peak-time disco celebration of filter-sporting closer -star buk-. this too boasts booming drums and bass, but also enough musical looseness to avoid the usual disco-house pitfalls.

the next release on leading french label zone is a very special one indeed from long time friend of the label and pioneering electro figure kittin, the artist formerly known as miss kittin. her standout original comes with an equally impressive remix from truncate. a long time stalwart of the electroclash scene who has put out many seminal singles, kittin has famously collaborated with the hacker and felix da housecat and mixed up new wave and techno in arresting new ways for decades. her albums have always been hailed as hugely accomplished and the prolific and innovative frenchwoman has worked with numerous top labels. now back once more in 2018 with her first solo single in some time, she is in fine form. her offering here, ‘eacid’, is a timeless piece of deep techno with brain melting bass and twinkling yet menacing keys. her own vocals are twisted and chopped up into wordless forms that add layers of intrigue and the whole thing is brilliantly broody. a breakdown at the mid point allows you to catch your breath as her voice refracts round the airwaves, then the icy hi hats and rumbling drums and bass land again with subtly uplifting, light emitting chords rising in the background. all in all, this is one of kittin’s most special and evocative tracks of recent times. remixing is truncate, the deep techno artist who runs a label of the same name and has released his killer wares on 50weapons. his version is more wild and flailing, with the keys becoming more manic, the drums darting about all over the place and the voice becoming more paranoid and trippy.

warsaw based duo private press join rekids special projects this july with four deep techno cuts entitled ‘zero sum ep’. hailing from poland, adam brocki and jan wóycicki make up private press – a project that’s released sought after cuts on labels like technosoul and indigo aera. the duo is also known by the name raw feelings, however many will be familiar with brocki’s newborn jr. alias, which has dropped releases on rhythm section, echovolt, dopeness galore and les yeux orange. ‘miracle man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before ‘becomes the prime’ opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. on the flip side ‘tooms’ delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as ‘clan’ offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

vive la musique brings you an official reissue and rework of the unique and highly sought after zouk track tabala mouv . the song is is the standout composition from the ultra-rare tabala series, released on vinyl in the mid 80s. after many months of searching, label head aroop roy managed to track down songwriter and producer, maurice agad, to the caribbean island of martinique. the 12inch includes the original track and two brand new versions, making a special package that many are touting as one of the soundtracks of the summer. in the original, detroit-esque keys and a balearic beat captivate you from the opening bars and uplifting vocals and a euphoric horn section combine to transport you to an idyllic paradise. aroop roy steps up the tempo and flips the groove for a trademark rework that will have universal appeal to house, disco and tropical music fans. the release is made complete with a subtle extended edit from truccy. the package is presented with beautiful full cover artwork, limited to the first pressing, which is likely to go very quickly.

a shimmering piece of gold - discos dorados is a 4 track va e.p. brought to our shores by the lovedancing adventurers. felipe gordon & vagabundo club social open up the e.p. marrying dreamy arps and luscious rhodes stabs, with tribal-esque chanting to create an exotic, bubbling groover. eddie c then ramps up the disco flavour with his stomp mix of the original introducing a phased upbeat hook and choice horn samples, isolating out elements before unleashing a killer keys solo over the top. flip it and sleazy mcqueen & vagabundo club social bring the heat with chips y salsoul , blending jazzy chords and echoed out trumpets evocative of a mexican fiesta after one too many tequilas. to close it out eddie c rides off into the sunset sampling a vocal dialogue that wouldn t be out of place on a moodymann record, alongside succulent strings and crisp percussion - reminiscent of the jazz infused, mpc laden house of the moomin s of this world.

dauwd returns to technicolour with -theory of colours - versions- ep. a new 4-tracker ep containing remixes/reworks of various singles from his debut album. the ep opens with a piano rework of analogische memories , recoded at his studio in berlin and the result of countless hours work - -it took some time, as i had to learn to play piano- dauwd explains. dauwd also makes up one third of the berlin collective, party and radio show, african acid is the future having previously released on kompakt and ghostly international. ukrainian music producer and leleka label boss vakula provides a remix of macadam therapy . fresh from the release of his well received lp -metaphors- and following on from last years -techno game- released via arma and -cyclicality between procyon and gomeisa- released via dekmantel in 2016. aaitf partner romain azzaro aka rouge mécanique provides two remixes of murmure (one -walking-, the other -running-) - -romain and i returned to the studio where i made much of the album in utrecht in the netherlands. we got to experiment again with many of the wonderful machines they had there, in particular the original roland system 700-.

this hampshire & foat project should not come as too much of a surprise to those familiar withgreg& warren s music, influenced heavily by not just jazz but the library sound of the 60s and 70s along with film soundtracks from the same golden era.greg& warren are avid collectors of this music,gregsends me links night and day to lps he has picked up digging on his travels. this constant search sends him down new musical pathways and often sparks a whole new concepts for projects. warren andgregare both fiercely creative talented individuals which means we have to keep them working, a challenge for us all, but the music rewards the effort many times over. we had talked for a long time about doing a library style lp (somethinggregis very passionate about) so during different recording sessionsgreg& warren started laying down various tracks with a view to the lp we have here. side one is 5 tracks in very distinct styles, musical paintings for the big screen. the vast sound of the japanese influenced jasmine, the spaghetti western melancholy of mariposa lily, the call to action that is antonio s theme, the breezy vintage sports car in the sun that coastal drivepaints, and lost in nostalgia, a late night poirotesk piece. side 2 is a classic library suite, whichgregdescribes as a detective s theme with different variations on the motifs.

after the label was put on hold for many years, there was no doubt, that lory d was up to the task of reanimating the sleeping beauty of seilscheibenpfeiler schallplatten berlin. t he italian techno producer deliveres a stunning ep for catalogue number sspb001. with its driving acid sounds, sublimed by raw percussions and hypnotic rhythms, this ep definitely is one for the darker parts of the night. last but not least it also features an edit of berlin local marcel dettmann, a man that doesn?t need no further introduction. a big bang that makes sure that the next release won?t take another 24 years...!

anyone who’s followed maurice aymard’s galaktika label over the years will be all too aware of the imprint’s leaning toward eclectic sounds. it’s an ethos that mirrored in the work of aymard himself and regardless of whether he’s turning his hand to tech house sounds or more straight-up techno jams, his is a way of working that’s endeared him to many over the years. his latest is a case in point. the 75th chapter in the galaktika discography, the into the night ep serves up an array of sounds that are enticing as they are upbeat and intriguing. getting us underway is the sounds of the title track. an unfurling beast of a track that’s loaded with dramatic tension throughout, it’s an eerie cut that’s characterised by its clever bells and some incessant percussion. a full on track that’s not to be handled lightly, it’s repetitive nature and sporadic vocal charms is indicative of levon vincent at his best. ‘shinning’, a more progressive cut, follows after. another track that’s notable for the suspense that lingers throughout, it serves up a nice stylistic alternative to what’s arrived before. aymard then goes all out on the frankly astounding sounds of ‘rage’. a propulsive gem of the type that sees the producer greatly rewarded for trying something that bit different, it’s a special sort of track that takes on various tones throughout but always stays captivating. seeing us out soon after is eduardo de la calle’s remix of the latter. the cadenza man is well versed in all things deep and dextrous, and his interpretation serves up a fitting example of his talents. although it starts on a melodic tip, it too soon brings the listener on a thoroughly captivating but unexpected journey. much like the rest of this ep, de la calle’s remix is full of surprises from the off.

clubbing is a source of euphoria: a weekly, often daily escape, a respite from the grind. that culture and its landmarks – some of london’s best venues and many countless pubs - are slowly disappearing for good. on last night, which was recorded in all four corners of london with marc pell (micachu and the shapes), lv, rob marfarlane and james anderson, benin city take an album-long look at the dual nature of london’s nightlife.

when michaela meise performed at westgermany at kottbusser tor in berlin-kreuzberg on march 20, 2015, accompanying herself on the accordion, i was perplexed. i knew her first album from 2010, which was about hymns (»preis dem todesüberwinder«, originally released on clouds hill, available as a download and stream through my label from july 2018 on), but what she was playing weren’t spiritual songs?! i wanted to put this music out on my label: the songs sounded sad, aloof and wistful but also proud, determined and unerring. the album title »i am greek« is a tribute to melina mercouri’s album »je suis grecque!«, which was released in 1971 when mercouri was deprived of citizenship by the greek military junta. mercouri lived – like mikis theodorakis and many other cultural workers – in exile. meise’s album is dedicated to the chanson scene of post-war europe, whose songs were popularly folksy, but also political. some talk about the experience of war, the shoah and labor migration.

antonio sanches provided the “out of space” lead track on the label’s seminal “space echo” compilation. impossible to find for many years, the sound of “buli povo!” is just as arresting and mesmerizing today as it was on the day it was released. it has just taken us thirty-five years to catch up with antónio’s vision.

the second outing from lisbon based percebes mu&#769,,sica comes from ka§par, a respected portuguese author who consistently releases on many revered deeper dance music imprints. the “epicurismo” ep is a fresh and well humored record, conceived as an homage to the greek philosopher epicurus, who widely professed a personal mantra for happiness.

(recorded from 1993-2000) they were incredibly kind in saying it was the best demo they had ever heard and passed it on to octal records for release, sadly, that didn t materialize and since then these masters have been collecting dust in our cassette rack for nearly 20 years now. we ve spent months doing our best to restore the old tapes from our tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. we ve had nearly every component replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life, it s been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and redesigning these masters. we truly hope you enjoy reliving these magical times of music, very inspired by all that was happening in those years, there was just something in the air, an undeniable energy, long may it live on..

exactly one year after their sold-out debut album zest, die orangen (aka dreems & kris baha) are zurück! malka tuti and die orangen have concocted a double dish, a two part remix package, saft 1 & saft 2. the first part consists of a new live version of the track yaranabe, recorded in a live session as part of the duo’s infamous analogue live act. a2 is tapan’s remix of metal man. the poem-not-poem is taking shape as a low bpm banger when tapan’s heavy signature kick meets those trippy vocals. this is tapan’s first track to be made after finishing their debut album last year on mt, and its an interesting evolution of their sound, slow dark and punchy, yet with these vocals and bassline, also a catchy post-pop track for the later hours. on the b-side lies gordon pohl’s reimagination of mersey river (aka “the platypus track”). the tracks “epic-, long slow ambient opening and evolution into rhythm resembles in many ways the psychedelic collaboration works of the late pete namlook & move d on namlooks own fax records, which was always a significant influence on the malka tuti world.

not to be confused with the 80s heavy rock/funk band from the us, this living color track was written, produced and released by tony kalangis on his sophisticated funk label in 1974. kalangis, who sadly passed away in 2017, was a man of many talents who could not only write a great tune but also novels, poems, and film scripts.

casey tucker is on a roll at the moment, and his infectious brand of uplifting, full-fat machine soul seems to have struck a chord in many places (not least via his reissues on for those that knoe). after appearing on love notes back in 2015, tuckers back on the label with another salvo of colourful, charming and utterly magnificent house jams shot through with the inventive programming of techno. alternative faction is many things a bubbly acid track, a swooning deep house cut and a sassy broken beat affair and yet feels utterly smooth in its execution. that time of year has plenty of motor city soul feeding into its composition, not least in the gorgeous synth strings, and new mission gets busy in the swing with all kinds of bouncing melodies and rhythms.
